[00:00:00] Speaker A: All right, y', all, I'm here with Ryan. Just gonna do a quick interview with him. Say hi, we'll say what's up, man? All right, so I offered Ryan six bucks to do an interview with me, so we're gonna do one together. All right, so what's your name, man? Where you from? [00:00:10] Speaker B: I'm from Corpus Christi. My name's Ryan. I'm homeless. [00:00:17] Speaker A: Tell them what you do, man. You sell? [00:00:18] Speaker B: I make crosses and roses. [00:00:20] Speaker A: Yeah, where are you at which point? [00:00:21] Speaker B: What's intersection on right now? I'm on staples in Morgan. [00:00:26] Speaker A: Cool, man. So how long. So how long have you been doing this type of stuff? [00:00:30] Speaker B: Since I was 18 years old. [00:00:31] Speaker A: All right, all right. [00:00:31] Speaker B: How old do you know I'm gonna be 30 in August. [00:00:34] Speaker A: All right, all right. Okay. [00:00:35] Speaker B: So to me, this is a job to me. [00:00:37] Speaker A: Right? Cool, man. All right. [00:00:40] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:00:40] Speaker A: So. So how do you. So where do you stay at, like. [00:00:42] Speaker C: Or what do you. [00:00:43] Speaker A: What do you sleep at? [00:00:44] Speaker B: Or. It depends on how much I make. Like, I could pay somebody to stay somewhere or I'll sleep under the underpass. [00:00:52] Speaker A: Right on, man. So like, they're like the hot season. I guess you don't need. Really need a blanket because it's. It's hot. [00:00:58] Speaker B: I mean, look at my face. I'm white. I'm. I'. [00:01:01] Speaker A: I. [00:01:02] Speaker B: But I look like Mexican. [00:01:04] Speaker A: You look young, bro. Like, you. You really look young. And when I see you out here, I'm like, man, that guy's young. He's hustling out here, you know, I. [00:01:10] Speaker B: Try my hardest out here, man. [00:01:11] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:01:12] Speaker A: And it makes me wonder sometimes, like. Like, why you guys out here? You know, why you guys. [00:01:16] Speaker B: My choice. [00:01:17] Speaker A: Cool. [00:01:17] Speaker B: By my choice. Honestly. [00:01:18] Speaker A: Cool, man. Ryan. All right, bro. So you're from Corpus. Which school did you go in? Any schools out here? [00:01:23] Speaker B: I actually graduated. I was in child protective service, but I graduated from New Braunfels. [00:01:28] Speaker A: Okay. [00:01:29] Speaker B: Self paced with a diploma four years early. [00:01:32] Speaker A: Damn, bro. So been like, so. [00:01:35] Speaker B: But I was going to college and they. They messed me up. [00:01:41] Speaker A: Okay. All right, so. [00:01:42] Speaker B: So from that, it's by my choice to be out here right now. [00:01:46] Speaker A: Yeah, man. Yeah. For real. For real. So people's their choice. And I've been hearing like, some people are like, like, mental. They have mental problems, like, out here. I know you talk with a lot of people. You know what I mean? [00:01:57] Speaker B: I talk with a lot. Everybody. [00:01:58] Speaker C: Yeah. Yeah. [00:01:59] Speaker B: I used to be very shy, right. But when I first started the original Roseman, we were. It was Christmas, and this guy comes, goes by us, gives us $100 a piece. So from that ever since then, this was my hustle, dude. [00:02:16] Speaker A: That's what's up, bro. And it's pretty cool. I like. I like to see when people do that instead of just asking for money. [00:02:22] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:02:22] Speaker B: I'm not robbing nobody. I'm not, you know, killing nobody for any money. So, I mean, I'm trying. I really am. [00:02:29] Speaker A: So is it difficult for you to, like, do. To do your hustle, even though, like. So. Okay, okay, okay, okay. So what about with other people that are homeless? Like, is it. [00:02:36] Speaker B: We fight for our corners. [00:02:37] Speaker A: All right. All right. [00:02:38] Speaker B: I'm. Honestly. [00:02:39] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:02:39] Speaker B: Like, I mean, I. I used to have the one on crosstown, and they got. My palms would be there, hey, are you almost done? Or they'll come up on me and I'll be like, hey, you can't do that. [00:02:51] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:02:51] Speaker B: That's out of respect. [00:02:52] Speaker A: Oh, that's crazy, bro. Damn. So you got that to deal with, and then you got the police, and. [00:02:57] Speaker B: Then I gotta climb palm trees, right? About as tall as that pole. [00:03:01] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:03:02] Speaker B: I mean, I get cut up to get your palms. I. I go through rats, I go through roaches, I go through spiders, everything. [00:03:09] Speaker A: So. So do you sell? I mean, do you sell pretty good or what? [00:03:12] Speaker C: Sometimes, yeah. [00:03:13] Speaker A: All right. [00:03:14] Speaker B: And I don't. My. My. My problems when I climb them. [00:03:16] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:03:17] Speaker B: I don't need no spikes. [00:03:18] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:03:18] Speaker B: No rope, no ladder. I climb them with my hands. [00:03:21] Speaker A: Yeah. It's crazy, bro. Yeah. All right, so. So. So you gotta. You got the police to deal with also, right? [00:03:26] Speaker B: Yes. [00:03:26] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:03:26] Speaker A: So they hassle you. [00:03:27] Speaker B: They. They. They. They trespassing, soliciting without a permanent. I mean, it's ridiculous, though. [00:03:35] Speaker A: Yeah, man. [00:03:35] Speaker B: But, hey, that. It's only one cop that does that to me. [00:03:38] Speaker A: Okay. Okay. [00:03:39] Speaker B: The other cops, they give me thumbs up. [00:03:41] Speaker A: All right, so. So it's the same cops that work this. This area. [00:03:44] Speaker B: It's only one cop. He. He told me he arrested me 57 times already. That's. Arrest me. [00:03:50] Speaker A: That's a lot, dude. Holy crap. [00:03:53] Speaker B: On the same thing. [00:03:54] Speaker A: Yeah. So people know you. So people know you. Everybody knows you. [00:03:57] Speaker B: Everybody knows me in this area. [00:03:58] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:03:59] Speaker A: In the area. Okay. So if you go, like, over there to the south side or something, you. Different territory. [00:04:03] Speaker B: This is my. This is my spot. [00:04:05] Speaker A: All right, cool. [00:04:05] Speaker B: Like, people tell me to go elsewhere. [00:04:07] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:04:07] Speaker B: But I don't. [00:04:08] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:04:09] Speaker B: Because I got my regulars that give me. Yeah. I mean, everybody knows me. [00:04:13] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:04:13] Speaker A: Are there certain days like that you make. That you make good money or like. Okay, like Sunday, I figured, like, Fridays. Okay. [00:04:20] Speaker C: Okay. [00:04:20] Speaker B: Saturdays. Sundays is my worst days, actually. [00:04:23] Speaker A: Are you serious? Wow. That's crazy. [00:04:25] Speaker B: Palm Sunday, huh? During lint. [00:04:28] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:04:29] Speaker B: Is my best day. And then, like, online, like, Fourth of July. Okay. Say Fourth of July. [00:04:36] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:04:36] Speaker B: I'll put red, white, and blue on my crosses. [00:04:39] Speaker A: Nice. [00:04:40] Speaker B: Like they're artificial. [00:04:41] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So what about, like, Christmas? Christmas. [00:04:45] Speaker B: Green and red. [00:04:45] Speaker A: Cool. So what do you do for, like, when it's cold out here? It gets cold sometimes. It's whatever you can. [00:04:50] Speaker B: Whenever it froze that one time, I froze. [00:04:52] Speaker A: Damn. For real? [00:04:54] Speaker B: My hands. I mean, my hands are still numb. [00:04:56] Speaker C: Yeah, man. [00:04:57] Speaker B: From when it froze the last time. [00:04:58] Speaker A: That's cool, bro. Damn, bro. [00:04:59] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:00] Speaker A: I appreciate the time, man. [00:05:01] Speaker B: Yeah, I appreciate y', all, too. [00:05:02] Speaker A: Yeah. Anything you want to say? [00:05:04] Speaker B: Come buy my crosses and roses. [00:05:06] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:05:06] Speaker B: On Staples and Morgan. [00:05:08] Speaker A: Staples of Morgan. All right. [00:05:09] Speaker B: Three bucks. Two for five. [00:05:11] Speaker A: Two. Two for five. All right. All right. [00:05:12] Speaker B: Thank y'. All. [00:05:13] Speaker A: Cool, man. Appreciate you, man.
